Great Plains Energy Incorporated
Great Plains Energy is sweeping the fruited plains with electric power. The holding company serves about 850,800 electricity customers in Missouri and Kansas through regulated utility Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L) and KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company, which both operate under the KCP&L brand. The utility company has more than 6,400 MW of primarily coal-fired generating capacity. Great Plains Energy has exited most of its deregulated businesses in order to focus on its utility operations. Electric utility retail revenues account for more than 90% of Great Plains Energy's total operating revenues. In 2016 the company agreed to buy Westar Energy in a $8.6 billion deal.
